Rigid Gas Permeable Contacts Can Make Your Life Easier

Breathable Contact Lenses

It is not uncommon to want to get rid of using eyeglasses, and as long as you are not ready to go to LASIK surgery, you only have a very few options. The most prominent one of these is to get contacts. But aren't they uncomfortable and don't they make your eyes dry and ache? You must have been living in a basement, since the technology that is today used to create the contact lenses has developed to a point where there are Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses that are also known as breathable contact lenses because of the fact that they easily allow oxygen to get pass them, and because of that they are not that uncomfortable as you would think. In fact, most people who use them don't even realize that they are wearing contacts, but they think their eyesight has dramatically improved since they are not even wearing eyeglasses.

If you are one of those people who has to have the latest technology everywhere, then it is especially important to have breathable contact lenses since they are the true pinnacle of todays contacts. Thanks to the fact that they allow oxygen to pass them almost freely, you are not going to face corneal oxygen deficiency as easily as you would with traditional hard lenses, that block all gas exchange between the surface of your eye, and the outside. EVen though RGPs are called Rigid Lenses, you should make the difference between them and the hard lenses. Usually the hard lenses are made from materials like PMMA that is a very low tech material. Instead the RGP lenses are made with a technology that is even superior to the ones that the soft lenses use today. The soft contact lenses were long time considered as the best possible contact lenses.

Thanks to this new technology it is now possible to actually make contact lenses from silicone and hydrogel that are air permitting and at the same time oxygen permitting, hence they allow your eyes to "breathe". This is going to result in less eye infections and other eye related problems like dryness and pain in your eyes - although if you don't remember to blink because you are focusing on your computer screen, these are not going to take away that problem. These RGPs are superior to the soft lenses because they actually allow more oxygen to transfer through them, and even though they are not called soft, they are way softer than the hard lenses. At the same time they will offer more durability and especially more oxygen to your eyes. The lense cleaning is going to be a less troublesome procedure since the silicone and hydrogel lenses are very easy to maintain.

Common breathable contact lenses manufacturers include Air Optix and Ciba Vision that make even bifocal contact lenses.

If you are reading this text correctly, you might start thinking why does not everyone use only these lenses? The reason for this might be the fact that many people don't know about them, and at the same time they are so used to their soft lenses that have always felt comfortable right from the start - usually with breathable contact lenses you will have to take a little time to get used to them before you start feeling the comfortability.
